The Assist Lab: The Start of this Virtual Assistant Business

Writer: Mikenzie BlessingMikenzie Blessing

How it started: How it's going.

Life has been a wild ride the last couple years. We will get into all of that some other day….. Today, let's chat about what it taught me.

Virtual Assistant, Mikenzie Blessing with The Assist Lab, working on an administrative assistant or personal assistant project for a client.

Being a woman is tough. Whether you have kids or not.

You get married and the questions start. “When are you going to start your family?”

You have a baby (if that's what you choose). “When are you going to give him/her a sibling?”

Then it's the constant push and pull of furthering your career or growing your family and raising babies. “Why does she work so much? Who's raising her kids?” “Her poor husband is having to work himself to death because she just stays home with the kids.”

(not to mention your raging hormones, a body that is now very different, and an incredible amount of sleepless nights)

The Assist Lab started with the intention of helping small business owner's by offering marketing and administrative assistant services. These last two and a half years, some soul searching, and A LOT of learning changed the direction of this business.

How The Assist Lab Started

Remember when the entire world basically shut down, and Covid hit, and everyone was doing everything from home? -that's a joke. I know you remember.

Anyway, at the time, I was working for Aue And Company as a payroll specialist and handled all marketing. I had also noticed Jamie was needing help tracking all of the schedules within her home, as well as her own personal and business schedule. When we finally got back into the office consistently. she came to me with the idea of becoming a virtual assistant.

I had the same reaction you're probably having.

-"What the heck is a virtual assistant?"

Once she explained that definition to me I was SO EXCITED to get started. Without hesitation, we got going. Jamie was funding everything, and I was the driving force. I spent HOURS training on Virtual Savvy.

Here was the plan:

Set up a website.

Become present on social media.

Make cold calls to begin creating business relationships.

Offer the following services: social media management, administrative assistant, web design and updating, CRM creation and updating, and logo creation.

And from there, we hit the ground running.

Things went well from the jump. Clients were enjoying our services, and I was learning quickly. We couldn't have been happier!

How The Assist Lab is Going

Any business owner offering services can tell you, as your business grows and you're providing these different services, you learn what is and is not working and what you enjoy doing vs. what causes burn out.

Fast forward to present time; I've grown and learned SO much. I feel confident in the services I offer and the new services I'm promoting. Helping women entrepreneurs/business owners grow their business or side hustle, while maintaining a well functioning house hold and personal schedule brings my soul THE MOST happiness. Helping busy mamas brings me an equal amount of joy. Because I know that feeling of thriving in one area of your life while feeling the all other areas are barely staying above water. That failure feeling is the worst, and I'll do anything to help other women NOT have that feeling.

So whether you need help with creating a menu or grocery order, syncing schedules to one master calendar, reaching a bigger audience on your social media accounts, organizing your home or work space, or helping create chore and cleaning schedules for the household, I've got you, sister.

Here is the planner I'm using this year to stay organized, and I am IN LOVE! -> Planner

I also purchased this to help keep my planner color coded for each client, household member, etc. #ad -> Plan Organizer

If you're feeling like you're barely getting by in an area of life or an area is just straight burning you out, PLEASE reach out. My Discovery Calls are free, and I have so many customizable options as far as services.

Thanks for being here and hanging with me through this blog!

I hope you'll come back for more!
